Restore money transfer service within local banks in Sudan after 20-month hiatus

Khartoum | Now News

The Electronic Banking Services Company (EBS) announced late Monday night the restoration of the money transfer service within local banks via bank accounts and applications.

The money transfer services from one bank to another have been suspended since the outbreak of the conflict on April 15, 2023, as EBS employees were unable to access the systems at the Khartoum branch of the Central Bank of Sudan, located near the army command.

EBS said in a statement received by “Sudan Tribune” that we are “happy to launch a new service to transfer money between local accounts easily and securely using the basic bank account number (BBAN).”

It indicated that the service allows local bank customers to transfer money quickly via mobile applications, providing a more efficient banking experience.

EBS is the technical arm of the Central Bank of Sudan, as it is the national operator of electronic payment systems, including money transfer via accounts and providing phone applications.

The company provides services for withdrawing and depositing money in ATMs, clearing checks, and paying electronic payments such as purchasing electricity, recharging balances, and government services.

The restoration of the money transfer service between bank accounts comes after the Central Bank announced changing the current currency exchange method to depositing money into people’s bank accounts, with withdrawals later taking place at a maximum daily limit of 200,000 pounds.

The Sudanese complain about the poor quality of banking applications and their exposure to malfunctions that last for hours, especially since a large sector relies on them to receive money from relatives outside the country, after the ongoing conflict destroyed livelihoods in the countryside and cities
